Kentucky's Courthouses

The Court of Justice lives in some of the oldest historical sites in the Commonwealth. We are responsible for the operation, management, maintenance, repair, and preservation of all these
historic sites.
Currently, out of the 120 primary courthouses:

• 77 are over 50-years old
• 52 of the 77 are over 80-years old
• 34 are over 100-years old
• 6 are over 150-years old

Kentucky's Oldest Courthouses:

• Washington County - 1818
• Franklin County - 1835
• Campbell County - 1840
• Henderson County - 1843
• Livingston County - 1845
• Madison County - 1850

The court houses listed on this page represent the Court of Justice's current construction projects. We will try to keep the information as up to date as possible. Please excuse us, if we omit any information you are seeking. For additional information please contact us.

Currently, there are four (4) classes of Court Facilities defined in Kentucky's Court Facilities Criteria.

Section II. Court Facilities Criteria

1. Rural Court Facilities are for counties with case-loads less than 7,000 per year.
2. Urban and Metropolitan Court Facilities are for counties with an average of filings and closings greater than 7,000 cases per year.
3. Satellite facilities, which are primarily convenience facilities for the public, may be used for support of Circuit Court Clerk functions, such as drivers licensing, Family Courts, Drug Court Functions, and Traffic Court. These facilities are not built as formal "Courthouses" nor do they cost as much to build.
4. Leased and Interim Judicial Facilities: These facilities include private sector leased space and space obtained under memorandums of agreement from other government agencies.
