Technology Services

The Department of Technology Services (TS) is a full-service technology service provider for the Kentucky judicial branch of state government. Our commitment is to provide value-added technology services. Our expertise is providing our business partners technology solutions and infrastructures that make their services more efficient and/or available. Our experience provides the systematically unbiased solutions our business partners’ rely on to provide quality services to citizens and businesses of the commonwealth.

The following divisions develop, install, connect, support, and maintain the software, equipment, & services, listed above, for 3,550+ employees, across 40,000 sq. miles, located in 600+ facilities.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Our team is the face of Technology Services, we are responsible for assisting our customers with their daily technology needs. We provide a single point of contact for all COJ employees to resolve their technology related requests, questions and/or problems. We provide the technical expertise and experience for the installation, support, training, and management of all technology systems.

NETWORK SECURITY

Our team is responsible for ensuring that the court’s data is secure during all phases: creation/collection, transport, and storage. We monitor network activity for unusual activity or events; keeping the COJ aware of vulnerabilities and attacks against systems as well as ensuring recommended security patches are installed. Finally, we conduct audits and design policies that ensure devices are free of vulnerabilities, inappropriate access or abuse.

DEVELOPMENT

KyCourts II, our trial court Case Management System, was totally developed in-house.

Our team is responsible for analyzing judicial processes and procedures and developing applications that maximize operational efficiency through automation, rules definition, and consistent approach and output. These include management systems, operational systems, and/or systematic systems written within local and client-server, fat and thin, architectural standards.

SERVER OPERATIONS

Our team develops and maintains various types of servers for the datacenter and local courts. We design data systems, maintain & service all server related issues, and ensure production servers are appropriately backed-up and restored. We research new technologies that could improve the courts operations and work with major vendors to insure that their services are appropriate.

Our team is responsible for ensuring computers, personnel, and other technologies are connected and able to communicate with each other across the state and with external customers and partners. We accomplish this by designing, implementing, and supporting our communication infrastructure: computer and telecommunication networks. Additionally, we review, document, and make recommendations for infrastructure solutions and are responsible for it’s security and reliability.
