Justice Keller delivers keynote speech at 2014 Kentucky Law Day celebration

Americans must never take for granted their right to vote, Justice Michelle M. Keller told the audience May 1 at the public Kentucky Law Day celebration at the Capitol in Frankfort.

“The Rule of Law, our democratic government, and the right to vote are inextricably intertwined,” Justice Keller said. “These tenets of democracy stand as our fortress against terrorism, whether the threat emanates from within, or outside of, our borders.”

Justice Keller was the keynote speaker for the event. Law Day is a nationally designated day for Americans to celebrate the rule of law. The day underscores how law and the legal process have contributed to the freedoms of Americans. New attorneys are sworn in on Law Day in Kentucky.

Chase College of Law recognizes Justice Keller as first graduate to serve on Supreme Court

Justice Michelle M. Keller was recently recognized by Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law for being the first Chase graduate to serve on the Supreme Court of Kentucky. Chase hosted a reception Sept. 26, 2013, to honor Justice Keller, who graduated from the law school in 1990. She was appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear in April 2013 to fill the unexpired term of Justice Wil Schroder, who retired in January 2013. Chase Dean Jeffrey A. Standen presented Justice Keller with a commendation in recognition of her appointment at the reception. Many of her friends, family members and colleagues attended the event, which took place in the NKU Griffin Hall Rieveschl Digitorium.


Justice Michelle M. Keller sworn in as a Supreme Court justice

Justice Keller was sworn in by Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. on May 14 at the state Capitol in Frankfort. She was joined at the investiture service by her husband, Dr. James Keller, her daughters, Brenna and Olivia, and her father, Richard Meier. Her fellow justices and Gov. Steve Beshear were among those who provided remarks during the service.
