District Judge George Davis has been appointed vice chief regional judge

Chief Justice Joseph E. Lambert has appointed Boyd County District Judge George W. Davis III to serve as vice chief regional judge for the Mountain Region.

“I am greatly honored that Chief Justice Lambert choose me for this position," said Judge Davis. “I look forward to working with my fellow district judges in Eastern Kentucky to ensure that the court system is fair, efficient and responsive to the citizens of this Commonwealth."

Chief regional judges are responsible for assigning special judges in cases of conflicts or vacancies and may serve in the absence of any judge within their region. These judges supervise the administrative business of the court and provide general direction and supervision to the nonjudicial personnel assigned to that court. The vice chief regional judge manages the administrative functions of the court when the chief judge is unavailable.

The Mountain Region is comprised of Bath, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Powell, Rowan and Wolfe counties.

Judge Davis was elected to Boyd County District Court  in 1998 and re-elected in November 2006. He is a member of the Kentucky District Judges Association and serves as the association's treasurer, chair of the Legislative Committee and legislative liaison to the Kentucky General Assembly. He is also the District Court representative on the Judicial Concerns Committee of the Kentucky Bar Association. Before beginning his judicial career, Judge Davis served as Catlettsburg city attorney and as domestic relations commissioner for the 32nd Judicial District.

District Court is a court of limited jurisdiction which hears civil cases involving $4,000 or less, nonfelony traffic offenses, juvenile matters, city and county ordinances, misdemeanors and cases relating to domestic violence and abuse, guardianships for disabled people, small claims, probate of wills and felony preliminary hearings. The Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort supports the activities of more than 3,500 Kentucky Court of Justice employees, including elected justices, judges and circuit court clerks.
