Kid's Time

Kids' Time is designed to provide a sense of security, awareness and understanding as a beginning point for children learning to cope with dual parenting in separate households.

The program is for 1st through 5th grade children of divorcing parents and is designed to help them deal with their own emotions and to minimize the negative impact of divorce. The program last approximately two (2) hours and is held at the same time as the Parents Education Clinic, but in a different room. Kids' Time is not always available.

Kids Time helps children begin to understand their own feelings and to seek out people who can help them cope during this stressful time. In addition, the program provides children with an understanding of the emotional roller coaster often associated with separation and divorce.

Children watch a videotape entitled, "When Mom and Dad Break Up," participate in structured activities, interact with a facilitator; and interact with others of the same age group.

After completing the program, children should be able to:

  1. Recognize their feelings as normal
  2. Talk about their emotions and learn coping strategies
  3. Articulate what they want their parents to know.
